Empowering Young Voices in Pediatric Healthcare
Empowering Young Voices in Pediatric Healthcare
Kids and Families Impacting Disease through Science (KIDS) District of Columbia is the newest chapter in iCAN's global network of youth-led advocacy. As a nonprofit initiative, we empower young people aged 5-25 to shape the future of pediatric healthcare through engagement, storytelling, and collaboration with researchers and providers.
Whether you're living with a condition, caring for someone who is, or simply passionate about making healthcare better for young people, there's a place for you in our community.
Work with healthcare professionals, researchers, and policymakers to ensure young voices are heard in decisions that affect pediatric care.
Partner with research institutions to provide patient and family perspectives on studies that impact children and adolescents.
Offer workshops, webinars, and resources to help young advocates develop their skills and knowledge in healthcare advocacy.
Create supportive networks for young people and families navigating healthcare challenges in the DMV area.
Amplify patient and family experiences through digital platforms, speaking opportunities, and media engagement.
Host regular meetups, educational events, and fundraising activities to bring our community together.
The International Children's Advisory Network (iCAN) is a global organization dedicated to meaningfully involving children, young people, and families in healthcare research and policy. Founded with the vision that those affected by healthcare decisions should have a voice in making them, iCAN has established chapters worldwide.
KIDS DC proudly serves as iCAN's chapter for the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia region. We operate under iCAN's core principles:
